What determines the price?
- The number of rooms and indoor units: a multi-split costs more than a single split
- Capacity and energy class: the output must match floor area, insulation and glazing
- The outdoor unit's position and pipe length: a wall bracket, roof console or long pipe run costs installation time
- Brand and type of indoor unit (wall-mounted, floor or ceiling cassette)
- Region and season: prices run higher in the Randstad and just before summer

Frequently asked questions
What does air-conditioning installation cost?
A split unit for one room costs € 1,500 to € 2,500 including installation and commissioning. A multi-split for several rooms comes to € 2,500 to € 5,000, depending on the number of indoor units. The outdoor unit's position and the pipe length matter too: a wall bracket or roof console costs extra installation time.
Do I need a permit for the outdoor unit?
In many cases no: at the rear of the house or in the garden an outdoor unit can often be placed without a permit. On a listed building, in a protected townscape or on the front facade a permit is often required, and municipalities apply the rules differently. In an apartment you additionally need the owners' association's (VvE) approval. Do the permit check with your municipality before installation.
How much noise may the outdoor unit make?
Newly placed outdoor units of air conditioners and heat pumps are subject to a legal noise limit: at the neighbours' the unit may produce at most 40 decibels in the evening and at night. A good installer factors this into the position and advises a low-noise setup or enclosure where needed.
What is F-gas certification and why is it mandatory?
The refrigerant in an air conditioner is a potent greenhouse gas. Work on the refrigerant circuit — connecting, filling, repairing or pumping down — is therefore legally reserved for certified engineers and companies (the F-gas regulations; the Dutch STEK quality mark builds on them). We verify that certification before a company receives requests.
Can an air conditioner also heat?
Yes. Virtually every modern split unit is reversible and then works as an air-to-air heat pump: it delivers a multiple of heat per kWh of electricity, making it an efficient addition to your heating in spring and autumn. Mention in your request that you want to heat too, and the installer will factor it into the capacity.
What capacity do I need?
That depends on the room's floor area, insulation and glazing. As a rough rule of thumb 60 to 100 watts of cooling capacity per square metre is used, but the installer makes the real calculation with the quote. An undersized system keeps running without cooling the room; an oversized one cycles and dehumidifies worse.
How often should an air conditioner be serviced?
The advice is once a year with regular use — certainly if you also heat with the unit, because then it runs all year. You clean the indoor unit's dust filters yourself every four to six weeks in season. With many manufacturers periodic servicing is also required to keep the warranty valid.
How long does an air conditioner last?
A well-installed and maintained split unit lasts on average 10 to 15 years. Annual servicing and clean filters make the difference: a dirty system uses more power and wears faster. With an older unit the engineer weighs repair honestly against replacement.
Is a request really free and without obligation?
Yes. Submitting a request costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You receive up to 3 quotes and choose yourself — or no one, that's fine too. Prices and payment are arranged directly with the installer.
Are the installers vetted?
Yes. We verify Chamber of Commerce registration and business liability insurance, and for work on the refrigerant circuit the legally required F-gas certification, before a company receives requests. Customer experiences factor into matching.
What happens to my data?
Your details are shared only with the (up to 3) installers matched to your request. We never resell your data and automatically delete requests after the legal retention period. See our privacy policy.
Do you also work for offices and HOAs?
Yes. For offices, shops, practices and HOAs there are climate maintenance contracts with a fixed frequency, priority for breakdowns, a single point of contact and a single invoice. Choose 'Office climate and business maintenance' in the request.
