What does air-conditioning installation cost in 2026?
Guide prices for split and multi-split systems, the five factors that drive the price — and why the season matters.
Installing a split air conditioner in 2026 costs on average € 1,500 to € 2,500, including mounting, pipework and commissioning. If you want to cool several rooms from one outdoor unit, a multi-split system comes to € 2,500 to € 5,000, depending on the number of indoor units.
The price depends on five factors: the number of rooms and indoor units, the capacity and energy class of the system, the position of the outdoor unit and the length of the pipe run (a wall bracket or roof console and long pipes cost installation time), the brand and type of indoor unit, and the region — Randstad rates run 10-20% higher.
Budget for recurring costs too: an annual maintenance visit costs € 80 to € 150 and keeps efficiency up. And mind the season: just before and during the first heatwave installers' schedules fill up and you more often pay the top of the band. Planning in spring or autumn is calmer and often sharper priced.
Always request multiple quotes and check that the installer is F-gas certified — legally required for work on the refrigerant circuit. Set every quote against the price index before you sign.
